For over 40 years, Jim Macie has served as one of the Atlanta area’s premier divorce and domestic relations lawyers. For almost 30 years Jim has annually received the highest possible rating for legal ability and ethical standards, based on peer review, and as determined by the Martindale-Hubbell rating service.  The American Institute Of Family Law Attorneys designated him as one of the “10 Best Attorneys” in the State of Georgia in his field, based on client satisfaction. As the year 2019 began he was selected by his peers as one of Georgia’s “Super Lawyers” in the field of Family Law, an honor accorded to only about two percent of the Family Lawyers in Georgia, and one of only two attorneys so designated in Clayton, Henry, and Rockdale counties.

A graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, Jim has chaired the Family Law Section of the Atlanta Bar Association and, as early as 1984, authored the “Family Law Chapter” of the Georgia Lawyers Basic Practice Handbook.  Jim has been a frequent speaker on domestic relation topics at Continuing Legal Education seminars, having delivered presentations on “Child Custody and Visitation,” “The Utilization of Private Investigators in Domestic Relations Cases,” as well as basic overview and legal update lectures on the ever-changing area of Family Law.

Having spent nine years as a Roman Catholic priest prior to entering law school, Jim has a unique background to counsel and guide clients through the anxiety and trauma often experienced in a family law case.  He is a graduate of Siena College, where he graduated summa cum laude.  Prior to attending law school at the University of Georgia, Jim attended graduate school in theology, with additional graduate studies in literature at the University of Georgia.

While Jim tries hard to settle cases without the need for protracted litigation and expensive trials, his record in contested cases has been excellent, as many former clients have attested.

Jim was born in Buffalo, New York and has lived in the Atlanta area for most of his adult life.  His hobbies and interests include travel, reading, theater, music, jogging, dogs and cats, football, and dining out.  He has been happily married to Mary Ann Macie since 1977.  They make their home on Lake Spivey, where she is President of the Emerald Drive Garden Club.

For the past 10 years he has been affiliated with his law school classmate, Rod Meadows, in the firm of Meadows Macie & Sutton.

Jim also serves on the Executive Board of the Clayton County Bar Association.
